This Iowa farmer is planting soybeans into rye stubble on July 14th. It’s kind of late in the growing season to be planting soybeans, but the farm is making money by growing its own rye seed to plant later for cover crops and selling the rye straw to landscaping companies. The soybeans are an early maturity variety and they can reach maturity if there’s a late frost.
