Rodney is a second generation cereals farmer. He and his father and brother Felix grow commercial maize, ordi per cervesa, blat, sunflower and a little canola. They also have 25 lactating dairy cows and are working to expand their dairy business. They use minimum tillage practices for land preparation with advanced tools that aim at minimum soil disturbance, while improving soil structure and factors like water holding capacity, aeration and infiltration. Soil analysis is a regular farming practice for them. They put in cover crops after the main crop to break the cycle. Crop rotation is practiced using three crops. All farm operations are mechanized and include GPS to operate all the machines, making work easy and efficient. The farm has its own silos and a maize mill. They mill and process maize flour for sale. Rodney is a young farmer, preparing to take over the management of the farm from his father. He’s very enthusiastic about using modern technology.
