AD’s farm is located in a group of small islands called Camotes Islands in Cebu, Filipines. The base farm is 8 hectares of land. They rent an additional 25-35 hectares for corn production. The mission of the farm is connected to community development and the idea of using farming as a tool to help other farmers improve their techniques to get them out of poverty.
AD has a degree in Bible and Theology and pursued a call to serve as a minister. Entre 2000 i 2010, he frequently visited the Camotes Islands to oversee properties owned by his father-in-law. There he’d seen the relentless effects of poverty. He realized that poverty could be addressed if farming practices were improved. En 2010, his family moved to Camotes. AD saw the tremendous amount of technological resources already available from science that were not able to reach these people. He has tested and demonstrated the impact of technology on his farm, showing yields 10 a 12 times higher than when traditional ag practices are used. AD had a rare opportunity to visit CIMMYT in Mexico with the help of his friends and mission supporters.
